DAVE SMITH PROPHET 08…..SOLD !

Analogue synths powered many keyboard rigs in the 70`s and 80`s, and the original range of
Sequential Circuits Prophets was one of the most potent and ballsy sounding around. The Prophet
5 was also the first polyphonic synth that could store the value of every parameter in its voicing and
control structure. Simply put, for the first time you could enter a patch number and recall a stored
sound – before this unit every sound had to be reconstructed each time with all preceding synths!

Until Yamaha released the DX7 in 1983 analog synths were prevalent, but the introduction of
a stable, tuned preprogrammable DX7 spelt the end of the analog era and pretty soon all the
specialised synth producers disappeared, including Sequential Circuits who were the creators of the
Prophet range. With the DX7 came a lot of pretty realistic sounding instruments, but lost were the
powerful expressive sounds that only a true analogue synth can produce.

However, the Prophet 08 is a herald back to that era with rich, warm powerful sounds and none
of the temperamental characteristics of the Polysynths that preceded it [the temperamental
characteristics were a good thing sometimes and responsible for some of those unique sounds of
yore, but at least you can move this baby around without invoking tuning instability fears ]

In addition, this rebirthed classic has lots more features like 3 envelopes / 4 LFO’s per voice, and an
additional midi socket, which enables it to act as an expander to increase the polyphony of another
08 [ keyboard or module ] to 16 voices in total when chained together.

The original Prophet was used by Phil Collins, Peter Gabriel’s solo albums, Japan, Madonna et al, and
this modern version does a good job of keeping the flag flying.
