Gibson SG SPECIAL – 1972

SERIAL NUMBER: 95262
DATE: 1972

This guitar plays and sounds great.
If you think small humbuckers cant scream and kick butt, then you ain’t played this guitar.

In `72 Gibson reverted to sculpturing the body a bit closer to the early sixties profile – notice the gap
between the neck pickup and the neck.
Early SG`s had a reputation for breakable necks due to the weak join at the body, later models had a
beefed up neck joint, but this required the neck pickup to be moved slightly back, as in this beauty.

The mahogany body makes it easy on the shoulders and the lighter weight contributes to the ‘bite’
in the top end of the sound that Specials are known for, as opposed to the darker fatter tones of
their heavy, paf equipped Les Paul Std brethren.
